Where’s The Beef?

Beast Burger

A couple of days ago, I shared a post from the Mint Custard blog on Quorn.  I think that Quorn is one of the best substitutes for meat.  I like the texture.  The taste is pretty good.  I have been using it for years as my basis for a piccata.  Or pot pie.  Or in a salad.

Lately, it has become more difficult to find in stores around me.  I live on an island off the coast of ‘cow country’(Texas).  I have been having to drive up to Houston to buy my Quorn.  However, last week I stumbled upon a product that might be a pretty good substitute for the Quorn.  It’s called Beyond Meat.

I had wanted to make a salad for myself and put Chick’n in it.  I had no Quorn.  I wasn’t going to drive to Houston, so I went to the Randalls near me.  That is where I found the Beyond Meat.  In this case it was Beyond Chicken.  I made a lovely salad that night.  A few days later, I made the same salad for my husband.  He loved it!  We agreed that meat eaters wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between chicken and Beyond Chicken.

Here’s the salad I made

Chick'n Salad

Doesn’t that look good?

I thought “Gosh!  If Beyond Meat’s chick’n was that good, what other products do they have?  And are they just as good?”

So I went on the hunt!  What I found is that Beyond Meat has 3 types of products.  They have Beast Burgers, Beyond Chick’n and Beyond Beef.  They say that

Whether you’re looking to make tacos for the family, game day munchies for your friends, or a hearty, healthy meal for yourself, Beyond Meat’s 100% plant-based products are perfect for any occasion.

I asked myself, are they really that good?  Here is what I found.  First off, the Beast Burger is garnering all the attention right now.  All American!

And Beyond Meat got a write up in Business Week.  What happened with Whole Foods will amaze you!

So what do you think?   I think this is pretty impressive!   Would you try Beyond Meat?  Is this the wave of the future?  Go to their website to find out more.

I did the southwest chick’n strips and they were outstanding. Though of course I had to put a little chili powder on it to spice it up. We like hot in Texas. Thanks I like healthy too!
