This week, I am going to start off on a serious note. I live on Galveston Island. We a beautiful place to live. I have great neighbors! We are a University town and well as a big tourist Mecca on the Gulf coast. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
I spent my time this afternoon, with a group called Coalition Galveston. We spent the afternoon brainstorming on the problem of anti-sex trafficking.
Happy Birthday America!
I hope you all have enjoyed this July 4th weekend. That you got to a parade. If it’s still early, that you see some good fireworks tonight! We are lucky enough to have celebrated with friends. I often think about people who are not so lucky and try to share a holiday with them. It certainly makes our day better. I want to thank all the people who have fought and served to make this country great. And American is indeed great. I have been many places through out the world, and am always happy to come home. There has been lots going on in the world this past week. It’s been pretty quiet in my part of the world though. My week has been one of working around the house. Harvesting veggies from my garden. And of course, spending time in the Blogosphere, looking for cool and neat ideas. I found a few. Keep Reading!
Galveston Island had our very own special holiday over the past week! It’s called Juneteenth. It was a big deal this year as it was the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth. We celebrated it here in a big way! There was a Ms Juneteenth Pageant. We had our annual Al Edwards Banquet. This was a fundraiser for education. I went to the Juneteenth Gala on Thursday. It was honoring several people who has made the day one that is celebrated on a national level. Through this all, we spent time registering people to vote and educating them as to the importance of voting. I am posting the link to the blog post that I did a week ago. If you didn’t get to read it then, it will help you understand what Juneteenth is!
I hope you all have had a great week in the Blogosphere! I have only been blogging for a few weeks. If you have been following, you might have guessed that I love history. We need to know and understand history, before we can move forward. Sooo, I want to highlight a blogger that I have been following for a while. The Pacific Paratrooper. Did you know that today is Flag Day! Well it is. He has a great post on why we have Flag Day. Check it out. And while you are there, you might want to read more of his posts. There is a lot of history there!
Another week blogging. I love it. Everyday I learn something new. I make new blog friends. I just have a blast! I just want to share some of the new blogs and posts that I like. I also wanted to repost the recipes from this week. Just in case you didn’t get a look at them. I think they are pretty good! Keep Reading!
