From Looking Around!

I saw this video and just had to share it.  Talk about Christmases past!

I love cats.  I love the fact that they are soft and furry.  Snuggly.  At the same time, I love their fierce independence.  Their attitude that the world was their oyster so to speak.

I pretty much have had cats my whole adult life.  My first one was Rusty.  He was this gorgeous  tortoise shell cat.  Unfortunately, Jim turned out to be allergic to him.  Fortunately, I had a friend who just loved Rusty.

That didn’t stop me from having them.  I learned that all I had to do was bring Jim with me to sniff them.  You could say that they had to past the ‘smell’ test.  If they passed, they had a home.

So we had cats up until recently when Pyewacket passed away.  I so appreciate this video.  I loved all the antics.  Especially, seeing the kitty climb up to the top of the tree.  We had tiger lily who loved doing that.  She would climb up there and was queen of her world until she jumped down and knocked over the tree.  LOL!  We did learn to tie up the tree.

Please check out the video.  I think that you will get quite a chuckle out of it!

One of the things that I love about living on the island, we have lots of things going on. Especially around holiday times.  We just finished up our Dickens Festival.  We have have The Festival of Lights and Moody Gardens.  And you can also see Ice Island when you are at there.

And the parties!  I looked at my calendar and saw that I have at least 7 parties or brunches in the next 2 weeks!  Yikes!  In the past,  I would always gain at least 5 lbs.  I am a petite person, so that’s a lot for me.  I have a goal to not to gain that this year!    This is an article that popped into my email box the other day.  I wanted to share it with you.  Here are my three favorite tips!

6 And More Appetizers For Christmas!

When you start out as a beginner vegetarian, parties are really hard.  Especially, if you are trying to do it in a healthy way.  You don’t know how many times I have gone to a party and there really wasn’t anything that I could eat.  Maybe a salad, but not too often.

People would find out that I was a vegetarian and they would look for something for me to eat.  A lot of times I would get an offer of fried chicken(I am in the South).  Or someone would find some shrimp.  And I would explain that a vegetarian diet didn’t include either of those.  They were shocked.  They thought being vegetarian meant not eating beef or chicken.  Read the rest of this entry »

Over 30 Fun Kid Craft Ideas For Thanksgiving!

This weekend looks like it’s going to be one where we are going to cocoon at home.  Rain all day tomorrow.  Temperatures in the 40s to 50s on Sunday.  Pretty cold for my part of the world.  All I feel like doing is sitting in from of the fireplace with a cup of tea.

I remember days like this up in Illinois.  Except there we were stuck at home, because of a blizzard or an ice storm.  No school for my son.  And I would stay home for the day.  Those were some of the best times ever.  I always had a list of crafts we would work on throughout the day.  We would watch Carlitos’s favorite movies in between.  Does anyone remember vcr’s?  And we would drink hot chocolate all day. 100 Years of Halloween Costumes!

Halloween Costumes

I am still looking at Halloween costumes!  Isn’t that guy scary?

I found this video of 100 years of Halloween costumes.  I thought that they were pretty neat.  I remember some of these costumes from growing up.  Ah the memories!

Do you know why we started Halloween costumes?  The tradition of dressing in costume for Halloween has both European and Celtic roots. People use to believe that ghosts came back to the earthly world on All Hallow’s Eve( Halloween.   People were afraid that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits.

Nowadays, Halloween is just a day to have fun and get all kinds o candy.  Yum!
